The Perfomance tab shows how much processing power each program is consuming. It should show all the programs running in the foreground and the background. To check what you have running in the background, start the Task Manager and then go to the Processes tab. Where you mine with heavy machinery, drill for oil and build big cities. Press Alt + Ctr + Delete to access the Task Manager.
I just wish there was one set in the modern world.
